In the beginning of the month as a release for Dental Health Week, the Australian Dental Association announced statistics revealing that a large portion of Aussies forget to brush their teeth before bed.

Maintaining regular health care and practicing oral hygiene is the foundation to keeping not only a sparkling smile but also a complete smile. Unfortunately here down under we have discovered that we consume more than double the world’s average sugar intake – and it is showing in our children’s teeth.

What happens when you forget to brush?

Forgetting to brush is never a good sign, particularly if it has become a bit of a habit. If you have forgotten to brush you’ve probably forgotten to floss as well which means plaque, bacteria and probably tartar is making itself at home between your teeth.

Forgetting to brush or brushing only once a day can not only discolour your teeth, it can also cause decay and gum disease.

Your oral hygiene habits can have a lasting effect on your family

From the statistics released during Dental Health Week, almost 40% of our Aussie parents think they could set a more positive example for their children when it comes to oral health.

In a country where nearly 60% of our kids over 8 years old are getting their teeth filled or exhibiting tooth decay, the need for dental education and awareness has become disturbingly obvious.

Are you feeling a little stressed out?

If you think your dental health is being a little sidelined due to stress, we understand. In some cases your dentist may even be able to tell if you are stressed because of the signs of neglect.

When this is combined with medications such as some anti-depressants, dry mouth may be present which means saliva levels are low. Saliva acts as a combatting protective layer for teeth and when it is low, cavities may form.

Here at Australia Fair Dental, we want to help you feel as comfortable as possible during your appointment. If you think dry mouth could be affecting your health or you just want to feel a little fresher in general, book an appointment with our team and allow us to assist you in your recovery.
